FACETS AND MORE

When discussing the properties, there's more to know than you may think. The Diamond, though one piece, is graded upon many different factors. A Gemologist will start with the specific measurements described in the image below.

Characteristics of a Diamond

Crown and Table

The top half of the Diamond consists of 1) the Table, which is the uppermost flat surface, and the typically faceted sidewall. The primary function of the Crown is to disperse light evenly through the Diamond.

Girdle

The Girdle acts as the middle point to a Diamond. Ideally, you are searching for a medium to thick Girdle that helps spread your Diamond weight evenly, leading to the best quality of cut.

Pavilion and Culet

The Pavilion and Culet of a Diamond also assist with the light pass through but act more as mirrors to maintain an optimal amount of light for the best shine. The Culet also protects the Diamond from any potential damages, either while being set or worn.
